Welcome to HEEED Malawi and Scuba Shack Diving

HEEED is a non-profit Malawian NGO founded and funded in 2004 by WWF Finland. HEEED stands for Health, Education Environment and Economic Development. HEEED takes a holistic approach in developing and sharing these 4 main objective with local communities surrounding Lake Malawi National Park, UNESCO World Heritage site with over 850 unique species of fish found nowhere else in the world.

On 17 December 2025 the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, SC, received a formal visit from Trustees of HEEED Malawi, Dr. Kenneth Mckaye and Alison Wiklund. During the meeting Msaka welcomed HEEED’s educational initiatives and expressed strong support for incorporating Lake Malawi’s fish biodiversity and Art/creative recycling, as subjects, into the national curriculum. He said the Ministry of Education will further engage with HEEED to explore areas of collaboration – observing that greater public awareness is needed to protect the environment, deforestation and unique diversity of fish species in Lake Malawi.
